Whiskey Ginger Collective was founded in 2017 when playwrights and theatre creators Chloë Whitehorn (Divine Wrecks), Ciarán Myers (Touch), Rosemary Doyle (Artistic Producer at Theatre Kingston) and Adrianna Prosser (The Secret Life of a Schoolmistress) forged together a collective to create Celtic-Canadian theatre for today’s audience. The New Works Festival is a celebration of process and playwriting; each creator has a work in a different stage of development for the audience to dive into.
Scarred Leather is a supernatural Western by Adrianna Prosser that sends you back in time to Canada in 1842 when ghosts walked with you and your gun holster, "You can’t beat Death, and you sure as hell can’t cheat Death, but one day you might see plain what Death truly is…” starring Adrianna Prosser (Theatre by the Bay, Canada: Story of Us) and Caroline Concordia (Paro Caro, Web of Lies), with Jason Martorino (The Handmaid's Tale, Bad Blood), and Phil Rickaby (The Commandment), dramaturgy by Eric Woolfe (Eldritch Theatre).
Waltzing With Puppets by Chloë Whitehorn asks the question: when searching for the man of your dreams, why would you marry the man in your nightmares? Directed by Victoria Shepherd (The Pigeon)
with soundscape by John Stuart Campbell, starring Brianna Riche and Matt Jensen.
Sweet Mama and the Salty Muffins by Ciarán Myers is a workshop production about when a child goes missing and another grows up in her shadow; a husband has failed, the 27 club looms large, and the music is hotter than hell. Directed by Kendra Jones (RADA, TBTR Winnipeg) and performed by Liz Whitebread, Michelle Jedrzejewski (Classical Theatre Project, Mixed Company), Renée Strasfeld, and Ara Glenn-Johanson (American Rep Theatre).
Premieres at the Red Sandcastle Theatre, 922 Queen Street East Toronto,
